Why choose us?

Here at Nucleus, we provide a range of assessment for children and families.

Our assessments are completed by an independent Social Worker with expertise and experience working with the issues facing the family that we are working with, whether that be, domestic abuse, neglect, substance misuse or mental health to name a few.

All of our assessments are high quality and comprehensive and go through our vigorous quality assurance process. Our assessments are completed within 8-12 weeks.

At our independent social work agency, we keep up to date with current research and approaches in order to best understand and assess families.

For example, we take on a trauma-informed approach to our assessments as we understand that for many parents they have also been exposed to multiple traumatic events in their life and that this has impacted on the care they have been able to afford to their own children.

By taking on this approach, this then allows us to understand what support could best benefit the parent to further develop their parenting skills.

We also use interpersonal skills in order to develop relationships with the families we are working with to build up trust and gain a deep understanding of the situation. This in turn allows us to understand the support needs of the family and to understand what life is really like for the family/child. By building a relationship this also encourages families to engage more in the support and advice being offered.

We are unbiased and complete holistic assessments that look at all aspects of family life and the community.

We also actively encourage parents to access community resources and groups in order to help evidence and bring about change.

Our aim is to keep children and families together wherever possible.

The assessments we offer include:

All of our independent Social Workers are experienced in giving evidence in court and will be available for any court appearances, if required.

  • Information For Parents

At Nucleus, we understand the emotional impact that undergoing an assessment can have on a family.

Once we recieve a referral to work with you from a court, legal team or local authortity we will allocate the best Independent Social Worker for you.

This Independent Social Worker will be in touch with you quickly after they are matched to your family. Following this, a assessment plan will be drawn up between you both that is suitable for your needs as a family.

This will include how often the visits happen and where they take place, as well as, how often we will meet with you to discuss how the assessment is going (so that you are kept up to date about what is happening). Throughout this time, the Independent Social Worker will inform you about additonal support and training you can access in order to develop new skills to maximise the chance of you being able to stay together as a family as that is our main goal.

It is important to note that we are completely independent from any social worker you have previously worked with and therefore, do not have any preconceptions and we will produce an unbiased assessment.

At the end of our work we will then write a report of our findings to the court.

Throughout the time of our assessment we are also able to support for you so that you do not feel alone.

  • For Local Authorities, Legal Teams and Courts

We will need a referral to be made in order to begin work with families. You can find our referral form on our make a referral page

Our assessments are completed within 8-12 weeks but once you make a referral we can discuss this further.

You can trust in us to produce comprehensive and holistic assessments that will be quality assured through our quality assurance  process. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • Support alongside the Independent Social Work Assessment

We are also able to offer additional support alongside the Independent Social Work Assessments we complete in order to support parents to develop parenting skills, improve outcomes for children and support children to remain at home where possible.

We will again regularly meet with the family to inform them of the progress they are making and also if necessary/requested produce reports/share information for care proceedings.
